Newburyport Art Association member and Haverhill photographer Lydia Harris won the Best of Show award for her photograph of a server behind a counter gazing at the camera. She also won the award for best photograph.
“It’s sort of an out-of-the-box choice,” Allen said.
“I thought he has presence far in excess of his youth and an authority far in excess of his status,” he added. “His gaze at us is cryptic because you don’t know what he’s thinking, but it’s penetrating … . It’s beautifully composed.”
A free opening reception with the artists is set for Sunday, May 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. The show runs through June 9.
